2013 First Annual MLB Draft Draft

“blarghabfjkasnhjbadsdjnaskd”

So the draft happened about a week and a half ago, and it got us thinking. What other fun stuff could we draft ? The possibilities are/were endless, but we decided on drafting the obvious: other drafts. The goal was to build the best possible 25 man major league roster using only players selected in the first round of each draft between the years 2000 – 2011. We decided to exclude this year’s draft and last year’s draft on account of it’s way too early to even judge what those players are. We decided to include 2011 since it’s actually produced a few major leaguers already. Also, our rosters must include one designated hitter, two catchers, five bench players, three relievers, six starters, and a closer. But we got creative. To the picks!

  • 1st PICK (JAKE): 2005 draft

This was an easy pick, as it remains the most loaded first round we’ve seen in a long time. Jake immediately receives four of the best players in baseball in Ryan Braun, Troy Tulowitzki, Andrew McCutchen and Justin Upton. Not to mention Jay Bruce, Jacoby Ellsbury, Alex Gordon and Ryan Zimmerman. It was a crazy year on the position side, but this round definitely lacked pitching. The best pitchers taken were probably Matt Garza and Ricky Romero, neither of which made Jake’s final squad.

CATCHERS LOSE IT

THIS POST IS ALL CAPS BECAUSE THE CONTENT IS AWESOME.

THIS LINK IS A VIDEO OF YADI MOLINA LOSING HIS MIND OVER A BAD CALL.

HIS 3000 POUND BROTHER THEN TRIES TO HOLD HIM BACK AS MIKE MATHENY ALSO GOES BIZONKERS AT THE UMPIRE.

BASICALLY ITS A BUNCH OF CATCHERS JUST RUNNING AROUND AND YELLING.

P.S. We would embed it, but we are too cheap to buy that WordPress upgrade. So sorry.

You Searched What?

If it weren’t for WordPress’ advanced statistics, we would sit around all day and ponder about how many people from Algeria have ever read the blog (it’s 9 by the way). One particularly great feature of WordPress is that we can see the Google search terms that lead people to CFB.

The top three searches are pretty expected.

Duh. But if you look a bit lower down the list, you’ll find some funky ones. They all fall into three very specific categories.

  • Chris Davis fetishes
  • Random shit
  • Questions we cannot answer

Andrew Meyer Intro

Aside from one article written months ago by the Paretzky, every single piece of content on this blog was produced by either myself or Jordan. That’s about to change. We’d like to welcome a dear friend, Andrew Meyer to the CFB squad.

Everyone in this world has problems, it just so happens that Andrew has more than all of us combined. The dude don’t sleep, he’s addicted to buying hats, and he’s a very over-aggressive person. If you listen to the Prodcast you know him all too well. But he can kinda write and he’s certainly our flavor. He won’t write everyday, but when he does we can promise that it will be poignant, tear-jerking, and over the line.

Follow Andrew @dogswithhats

Have a good weekend.

Why Jose Bautista Followed Us On Twitter

Jose Antonio Bautista is many things. He is a superstar right fielder for the Blue Toronto Jays. He, like many other major leaguers, hails from Santo Domingo in the DR. He is a well dressed son-of-a-gun. One thing Jose Bautista is not however, is a close personal friend of either Jordan or myself. In fact, the CFB twitter didn’t even follow JoeyBats19 until we realized yesterday afternoon that

To be fair, it probably doesn’t mean all that much. And he probably doesn’t actually read our stuff. But is Jose Bautista following you on twitter? Probably not. Here is a list of possible reasons for Jose to follow our Twitter:

Giving Up The Game

Playing catch in the backyard was simple, pure, and carefree. Baseball was simply the avenue to a back and forth relationship. No one cared if you threw the ball over dad’s head or if the ball popped out of your mitt when mom threw it back. No coaches, no scouts, no pressure,  just the two of us and a cool summer breeze.

Then, you could be whomever you wanted. Assume the role of any big league hero. Announce your name as you stepped up to the plate. Wag your bat like Sheffield. Crouch like Bagwell. We’ve all been there. We all wish we could go back. But we can’t. Because time passes, people age, and the beautiful game of baseball gets harder and harder.
